An awesome night in Pittsburgh with Ratdog
This was the first time I had ever seen Ratdog.
I took a friend for his birthday after not having seen him for over a year since he joined the military. We dosed a few hours before the show and got lost wandering the streets of the Burgh. The cold was getting to us after a while so we hailed a cab to the Byham Theater, which is a beautiful venue to see shows at. As soon as the show began I knew I was in for an amazing night. Ratdog had (and still has) such a unique sound and the crowd was great as well. Every song in the first set was good and there was a nice ebb and flow to the pacing of the band. At setbreak we went outside to check out the scene. Never before had I witnessed such a carnival feel to the streets of Pittsburgh. Everything was all good right there on the sidewalk as some kind folks were smoking us up with a reeediculously large spliff that would have made Bob Marley proud, until I overheard someone working at the venue mention to a co-worker that the cops were on thier way. That was all I needed to hear and so my friend and I bolted inside faster than lightning. After being offered and taking up the offer of some heady shroomage from some cute hippie chick, it was back inside the concert area just as the second set began. I walked into a room lit in a serene purple as one of my favorite Janis Joplin songs was being played. At the time it felt like my mind had gone from zero to a hundred after such an exhilarating setbreak. The entire second set rocked me to the core and made me a zealous fan of Ratdog. Now I see them every chance I get and I wish I had been seeing them for years before this like I had Phil & Friends.
I give this show a five star rating because of the great memories I have of that night. However, I've seen Ratdog many times since this night and have seen better shows (they're all quite good though). Ratdog gets better and better each year.
